The South West Community Development Council (CDC) was formed on 24 November 2001, with the official appointment of Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon as the Mayor of South West District. Mrs Yu-Foo was the first woman mayor.

In conjunction with the swearing-in of the new Cabinet on 12 August 2004, Dr Amy Khor was appointed the Mayor of South West District. Dr Khor is also Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Environmental and Water Resources, and Member of Parliament for Hong Kah GRC.

The South West district spans the south-western region of Singapore, covering a third of Singapore's land area. The District has more than 225,000 households with about 789,000 residents, across Hong Kah GRC, Jurong GRC, West Coast GRC and Chua Chu Kang SMC.

The South West CDC has access to a network of facilities that can be tapped upon for support in community programmes, services and projects:

  • 21 community centres/clubs
  • 61 voluntary welfare organizations (including elder care centres)
  • 144 child care centres
  • 9 family service centres
  • 75 student care centres
  • 119 PCF education centres
  • 9 sports facilities
  • 39 primary schools
  • 36 secondary schools
  • 11 pre-tertiary and tertiary institutions

South West CDC Programmes and Services

The South West CDC bonds the community through its functional committees. Projects and programmes are themed according to the arts, youth, environment and community safety and security, elderly and more. The South West CDC also provides services to help the community such as job-matching and the administration of social assistance schemes.
