CITIZENS ON TRAIN PATROL@ SOUTH WEST

Introduction

Citizens on Train Patrol @ South West was launched in 2007 in conjunction with Emergency Train Exercise @ South West. In 2008, Citizens on Train Patrol @ South West  members attended various training programmes carried out by SMRT and SBS Transit Ltd and CPR Programmes conducted by Singapore Heart Foundation. Also, members participated in a major Train Exercise on 8 February 2009 prior to the opening of Pioneer and Joon Koon MRT stations. A total of 121 volunteers were recruited as of todate.


Objectives

2          The objectives of the Citizens on Train Patrol are to:

            (a)  Extend the role of Citizens on Patrol to cover the MRT Stations and trains so as to increase public vigilance beyond neighbourhood to cover infrastructure within the neighbourhood; and

            (b)  Promote greater awareness on safety and security of travelling on MRT Trains and MRT Stations.


Partners and their Roles

3          The following four partners involved in the Citizens on Train Patrol @ South West and their proposed roles are as follow:

To co-ordinate with Grassroots Organisations to invite volunteers to be trained to become Members of Citizens on Train Patrol @ South West

To provide training on crime prevention and patrol on MRT Stations as well as other necessary skills

Singapore Civil Defence Force : 1st CD Division and 4th CD Division

To provide emergency and CPR skills.

SMRT Corporation Ltd and SBS Transit Ltd

i. To provide training on train emergency procedure
ii To provide guidance and supervision in times of patrol duty.

4          The deployment of divisions and the respective MRT stations is as follows:

5          Duties of the Citizens on Train Patrol @ South West include patrol between two MRT Stations and to assist to call for SMRT Station Manager where any emergency arises. They will patrol for duration of two hours once a month.
