Driven by the need to actively involve the elderly in the fast changing society as well as to support continuous IT-learning, the South West Community Development Council (CDC) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College West have implemented an IT programme targeted at elderly. This programme enables elderly to maintain an active lifestyle as well as to age with dignity and security as integral members of the society.
The programme includes a fully-subsidised 4 half-day boot camp which equips senior citizens with basic IT skills and opportunities to realise the benefits of Information Technology as a platform for family and peer bonding. The boot camp is available in English and Mandarin languages, and are conducted by qualified senior citizens from the Retired and Seniors Volunteer Programme (RSVP Singapore).
Course Curriculum:
- Understanding the basic components of a computer
- Introduction to Web Adaptation Technology (WAT) software
- Introduction to the Internet (Emailing and Online community)
- Online quizzes and games
Eligibility:
a) Senior Citizen aged 50 and above;
b) Resides in South West District; and
c) Singapore citizen.
Elderly @ IT! Alumni
All graduates of the boot camp will automatically be members of the Elderly @ IT! Alumni where a series of programmes and activities are made available for them to participate and volunteer in!
To register, please call 6551 9299. Places are limited and registration on a first-come first-served basis. Interested participants will be placed on the waiting list when the scheduled classes are full.
All participants will receive a certificate of completion on the last day of the boot camp, and a set of vouchers worth $30 each, which entitles them to subsidy of up to 50% off any IT-related courses held at the following Community Centre/Club (CC) eClubs / IT Centres:
