1. EXXONMOBIL – SOUTH WEST CDC STUDENT TRANSPORT BURSARY 2008
This was the third year that ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd had collaborated with South West CDC to reach out to needy students via a transport bursary. Each student was given $120 to defray their transportation costs to and from school. 250 students benefited from this bursary which was opened to 35 primary, 35 secondary schools and 4 pre-university institutions.
A presentation ceremony was held on 20 March 2008 at the JTC Summit theatrette and the Guest-of-Honour was Dr Amy Khor.
2. STUDENT ADVISORY CENTRE – SOUTH WEST CDC LUNCH BOX FUND 2008
The Student Advisory Centre (SAC) – South West CDC Meals Bursary was started last year as a programme to help needy students in the district through providing them with free meals during school days. The programme also promotes corporate social responsibility by providing a platform for corporations to channel their donations through SAC towards helping the less fortunate in the community.
This bursary reached out to needy students in 9 primary schools and 11 secondary schools in Jurong GRC. Each primary school student received $160 and each secondary school student received $240 for 32 school weeks (starting 25 February 2008). 245 students benefited from this meals bursary.
A presentation ceremony, with Ms Grace Fu as the Guest-of-Honour, was held on 10 April 2008 at Yuhua Community Club.
3. MAPLETREE – SOUTH WEST CDC: ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ PROGRAMME
Mapletree had partnered the South West Community Development Council (CDC) to provide needy students in the South West District with basic essentials for the new academic year. It was launched on Tuesday, 29 January 2008.
Under the Mapletree – South West CDC’s ‘Back to School Programme’, 100 students from underprivileged households in the district was each given a ‘Back to School’ package worth up to $210; which included a new school bag, new school shoes and transport bursaries worth $120 for primary school students and $160 for secondary students.
The ‘Back to School’ Programmes is part of Mapletree’s on-going Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. In a pilot scheme started in 2006, volunteers from Mapletree delivered monthly food packages to 50 needy households in the South West District. Last year, the Mapletree Charity Food Distribution Programme has been expanded in scope to cover 150 households. It also involves a unique three-party collaboration between Mapletree, the South West CDC and secondary school volunteers, working together to reach out to needy residents by delivering food packages to their homes.
A launched event, with Mr Arthur Fong as the Guest-of-Honour, was held on 29 January 2008 at Clementi Community Club.
4. TIEN WAH PRESS – SOUTH WEST CDC:
3Rs SCHOOL BOOK VOUCHER PROGRAMME @ SOUTH WEST
In line with the ‘many helping hands approach’, South West Community CDC aims to promote corporate social responsibility within the South West District by actively seeking partnerships with corporations and private organisations in our work. South West CDC and Tien Wah Press (Pte) Limited – the first corporate organization to partake in recycling projects – launch a recycling and ComCare initiative to help our needy students in the South West District.
The objective of the 3Rs School Book Voucher Programme @ South West is to cater to the needs of school-going children expenses, in particular stationery and education materials.
The 3Rs School Book Voucher Programme @ South West targeted about 300 needy students (primary and secondary) residing in South West District. The fund was administered by the South West CDC, based on a set of criteria, through the schools nomination of eligible students. Successful primary school students received $80 per application per year; while secondary school students received $150 per application per year.
Student should possess good disciplinary record. They are also required to partake in environmental projects and/or join their schools’ environment clubs. The combined household income should be ? $1,500 or per capita household income should be ? $450, whichever is lower. The applicants should not be under any form of assistance(s) by South West CDC.
3Rs School Book Voucher Programme @ South West with Tien Wah Press (Pte) Limited seeks to promote corporate social responsibility and encourages other corporate partners to be environmental friendly as well. This project creates the opportunity for the company to let its staff be directly involved in creating more awareness, and grow this green habit in the community. It is an open declaration and recognition of the company’s commitment to achieve a first-class standard in public health and hygiene as a socially responsible community that takes ownership of its environment, together with its stakeholder.
